18V Battery platform
Milwaukee M18
The most trade-focused platform: a huge range and very powerful batteries. But its extended guarantee only covers purchases from authorised distributors, and buying on Amazon doesn’t guarantee you get it. That’s why I don’t link it on Amazon.

Which batteries fit and which don’t
- Every M18 battery (standard, HIGH OUTPUT and FORGE) fits every M18 tool.
- M12 and MX FUEL are separate systems: their batteries don’t swap with M18. They only share some combined chargers.
- There are no official adapters. Third-party ones sold on Amazon get complaints about damaged batteries.
What people like most
- A huge range aimed squarely at trades: electrical, plumbing, mechanical
- FORGE and HIGH OUTPUT batteries with lots of power
- Solid build
What people criticise most
- Mid-to-high prices
- Heavy tools
- The extended guarantee only applies if you buy from an authorised distributor (not Amazon)
I summarise opinions that come up again and again in forums and reviews, linked in the sources. I haven’t tested these tools in person.
Who it’s for
Good fit: Trades who need very specific tools on a single battery.
Not a good fit: Occasional DIY: the price adds up, and buying outside the authorised network leaves you with a 1-year guarantee.
