How I compare

Last updated: 5 November 2026

Every page on 18vlab follows the same rules, so you can trust what you read and check it yourself.

1. I start with the platform

Each brand’s batteries only work in its own tools. So I compare complete systems first: which tools each one has, which batteries exist and what it costs to get started.

2. Data from the official spec sheet

Torque, weight, speed, battery capacity and what comes in each kit come from the manufacturer’s spec sheet. If two sources disagree, I use the manufacturer’s and say so.

3. What owners say

I read verified buyer reviews and threads in trade and DIY forums. I look for faults that keep coming up: batteries that don’t last, parts that break, noises.

4. No made-up tests

If I haven’t used a tool, I say so clearly. I don’t publish measurements or tests I haven’t done.

5. Commissions don’t decide

I earn a commission when you buy on Amazon through a link on this site. It doesn’t change what I recommend: I explain how it works in the affiliate disclosure.

6. Dates you can see

Every page says when I last reviewed it. Models change; if something goes out of date, I update it.

7. Checked for your country

The English version links to amazon.co.uk and uses the guarantee terms each brand publishes for the UK. Products and guarantees change from country to country, so I check each one separately.
