18V Platform comparison
Milwaukee M18 vs DeWalt 18V XR
Both are site platforms. Milwaukee M18 wins on trade-specific tools; DeWalt XR on price and on how easy it is to buy. Both tie the extended guarantee to authorised sellers: check who is selling before you buy.

Where the difference lies
Trades
Milwaukee has more tools for specific trades: electrical, plumbing, mechanical. If your work depends on a very specific machine, check first whether it exists in M18.
Batteries
Both have high-output batteries. DeWalt’s edge is that FlexVolt takes it up to 54V machines without changing system.
Where you buy
Milwaukee only honours its extended guarantee for purchases from an authorised distributor, so I don’t link it on Amazon. DeWalt sets the same condition for its 3 years: on Amazon, check who the seller is before you buy.
Price
From the reviews I’ve read, DeWalt usually works out a bit cheaper than Milwaukee for an equivalent kit. I don’t publish prices because they change every day.
The assessments summarise opinions that come up again and again in forums and reviews, linked in the sources. I haven’t tested these tools in person.
